Mission Statement

The Chemistry Department is committed to achieving a diverse student and faculty population of the highest quality that best represents society as a whole.

Diversity Activities

  1. Student diversity activities include recruiting fellowships that enhance student diversity in both our undergraduate and graduate student programs.
  2. Faculty recruiting efforts include assessment of minority candidates when forming interview lists.

Future Diversity Activities

Identification of minority postdoctoral fellowship recipients to provide a pool for proactive outreach contacts for underrepresented faculty job applicants.

  • 3 female chemistry faculty (2 hired since 2005)
  • 50% female graduate student population
  • 50% female undergraduate chemistry majors
  • sponsorship of various extramural minority fellowships for qualified students
